1049 Reducing Postoperative Length of Stay After Thyroidectomy by Implementing Standardized Post-Operative Pathways

Abstract Aim Reducing length of stay programme (RLoS) was conceived to ensure better outcome and experience while preserving capacity. Our unit an outlier in after thyroidectomy according British Association Endocrine Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS) annual report. We present the results implementation a standardized postoperative care pathway reduce stay. Method Patient expectations were managed for early discharge. Discharge data collected on all total thyroidectomies prospectively over 12 months. Comparison made with two years prior protocol. Results Prior protocol implementation, 29 Thyroidectomies done benign disease. They discharged, post-operative day one 0% (67%), 45% (23%), three 41% (6%), four (3%) five 7% (1%). Figures parenthesis are national figures from BAETS After 17 carried out 87% discharged first 13% second day. No patients stayed longer than days. There no patient safety events as result Conclusions structured managing can significantly without compromising safety.
